Agadir or Marrakech, these two cities are completely different holiday destinations.
Both cities are major tourist attractions in Morocco, and many people hesitate between the two. That’s why I decided to write this post to help travelers make their minds. I love both cities and I’m gonna be as objective as I can.

Being in some part of Morocco will introduce you to the local culture and beauty of that particular place, but it would not give you an overall idea about the whole country

Agadir is located in the southwest of Morocco. It overlooks the Atlantic ocean and has the best weather ever.
People mostly visit Agadir because of its tranquility its fabulous beaches and the Berber culture.
If compared to Marrakech, Agadir is relatively small and calm, the people there are relaxed and the hassle is not as intense as in the old medina of Marrakech.
There is no old medina in Agadir, except for some ruins that were left after an earthquake that brought down the whole city in 1960.
Agadir is all modern and touristy and has an infinite number of hotels and some of the best luxury ones in Morocco.
Most of the inhabitants of Agadir are Amazigh, so besides Moroccan Arabic, the Amazigh language (mostly referred to as the Berber language) is also frequently spoken.
French is the most frequently spoken foreign language in Agadir, the road signs and restaurants' menus are all written in French. So, for perfect communication, you might need to brush up your French before traveling to Agadir.
If you don’t speak any French, basic English is very common in touristy places.
Agadir is mostly regarded as a beach resort, and some people visit it as a less expensive alternative to Las Palmas in the Canary Islands.
Agadir offers a variety of activities that you might be interested to try during your holidays such as, quad biking, camel tours, paragliding, parasailing, jetski, surfing, and karting.
There are numerous restaurants traditional and modern that offer good menus at affordable prices.

Why Visit Marrakech
Marrakech is indisputably the most visited and popular destination in Morocco. 2,5 million is the number of the yearly visitors Marrakech receives.
People visit Marrakech to see the famous square of Jamaa El Fna, the old Medina and some of Morocco's marvelous monuments.
Unlike Agadir, Marrakech has many historical sites that are worth visiting. A big part of Morocco's history happened in Marrakech, many dynasties that ruled the country made the red city their capital and made it home to some major palaces, mosques, and beautiful gardens.
A visit to the old Medina of Marrakech will take you to the past, and you will be amazed by how the locals are still preserving that simple way of life.
The monuments of Marrakech will make you feel the greatness of their founders and admire the hands that build every brick of these marvelous world wonders.
Marrakech is more vibrant and alive than Agadir, the city offers more choice and opportunity when it comes to activities, restaurants, and nightlife.
The red city is surrounded by some beautiful natural sites, like Siti Fatma, Imlil, Oukaymden, and Mountain Toubkal. If you like nature trips take one to these places.
If you want to visit Marrakesh, you might need to avoid going there during summer. The temperature gets to some high degrees during the months of July and August. You won't feel comfortable going around the city when it's 40 degrees.
Any period of the year other than summer would be a nice time to visit Marrakech. It gets cold in winter but the weather there is still better than in most European countries.
Marrakech has some world-class hotels, but it would be a cool idea to stay in a riad to live an authentic Moroccan experience.
Riads are Moroccan typical houses where Moroccan families used to live together in the medieval ages.
To sum up, both destinations are worth visiting, it only depends on what type of vacation you want. If you like the ocean and golden sandy beaches, go to Agadir. If you like monuments, history, and old architecture; go to Marrakesh.
Hopefully, this post helped you choose your next holiday destination. whether it's Agadir or Marrakesh, I'm sure you will have a nice time in both places.
